Early Days

When Vertex AQ came to me in 1999 with their first product, the simple Kinabalu equipment platform, I knew straightaway that this was a company tackling the knotty problem of supports in a novel and sophisticated way. The technical backgrounds of the principals was impressive and I didn't hesitate in taking the platforms into stock, working on my principle of selling stuff that works even if it's unknown.

Everybody who's done a little experimentation with shelf material, cones and slabs of concrete knows that they all make a difference to the sound, so there's clearly something significant going on at that interface between box and board. Up to that moment in 1999 no supplier had convinced me that their approach was correct - soft rubber, hard rubber, MDF shelves, glass shelves, wooden cones etc, etc.

Better than Sticking Plaster

The Vertex AQ approach to draining and blocking damaging acoustic energy, mostly created by the system itself, made complete sense and was easily demonstrated. Kinabalu supports went into my demonstration setup and I started the education process with customers, many of whom were naturally sceptical at this early stage.

Similar technology was built into other items and the Vertex range has now widened hugely into cables, platforms and mains conditioners at different performance levels, practically all of which I have in permanent stock for demonstration.

When people ring for advice and say they are interested in Product 'X', I try to find out why they are dissatisfied with their present setup. In 9 cases out of 10 I diagnose their problem as being something quite different from what they believe - and a lot of those problems can be significantly lessened or even eliminated with items in the Vertex range!

Upgrade Wisely

In fact, I go so far as to say that until the mains is cleaned-up with Vertex filters and equipment is placed on Vertex platforms, people cannot judge the performance of their system. Money is often misguidedly spent on equipment upgrades without solving the underlying problems. But remove the RF contamination and drain damaging acoustic energy from components (especially CD players and valve equipment) and improvements are dramatic.

People who come here for demonstrations usually comment favourably on the dynamics, the clarity and the power of the muic and sometimes remark that the performance is considerably better than other, more expensive, systems they have heard. Much of that difference is down to the Vertex AQ components in the system.
